So, I'm sick again. Not acclimating-to-the-climate sick, but byproduct-of-smokers sick. England has a lot of smokers. I think they're trying to make up for their lack of smog to damage my lungs. They say smoking is becoming less acceptable here, but there are still plenty of people (and plenty of young people) who smoke. Thankfully they can't smoke indoors anymore, but they huddle around entrances because it's so cold they want to be as near the heat as possible. So every time you enter or exit a building, you're pretty much walking through a haze of cigarette smoke. Then you have people smoking while walking to/from class. The worst is when you're walking behind someone who's smoking, so you have the smoke constantly as you walk.
Anyway, I have determined I react very poorly to cigarette smoke. When I'm around someone who smokes, even if it's upwind or whatever, inevitably my throat gets sore and I get a nasty sore throat for the next week that mimics a cold. Nastiness. So, after three weeks of being in England, I've finally gotten my first smokers sickness. Great. Especially since I'm about to leave for London, Stonehenge and Salisbury this weekend. Oh well, I guess we can't have everything.
So for now I'm chugging OJ and trying not to sound like death when I cough.
